Combining modern and traditional elements in your living room

When it comes to decorating your living room, you may face a challenge when blending traditional and modern design elements. While a living room furnished with a classic leather three-piece and shaggy rug may interest you, you must consider what this will look like when contrasted with the necessities of your modern lifestyle — smart televisions, speaker systems, etc. Your ability to combine these elements will ultimately dictate how well your room is designed.

The way to overcome this problem is to refrain from designing your whole room with classic décor, and instead opting for a combination of classic and modern decoration items. You can still have your grandiose, studded furniture, but you should combine this with design pieces that will offer your room a subtle kick into the 21st century, whether this is through the use of fabrics, colours or shapes. Here are just a ...

Tips to Help You Kit Out Your Living Room

The living room is the heart of any home. It’s a place you can play with the kids, relax in front of the TV with a glass of wine, or entertain friends with nibbles before a dinner party. We’ve got a few tips to help you kit out your living room and make the most of the space you have to ensure it’s a room you never want to leave.

Invest in Some Comfortable, Stylish Seating

The first thing you’re going to need for your living room is plenty of comfortable but stylish seating. Depending on the amount of space you have, there are many options for seating. If your room is a little on the small side, opt for a corner sofa to maximise the amount of people you can seat in the room. Quirky items like bean bags can be the perfect comfortable furniture that you ...

Show Off Your Love of Film with a Beautiful Home Cinema

Whether you are into watching the latest movies on your own, with friends, or snuggled up with your kids, there is a lot to be said for watching them in the comfort of your own home. You can eat whatever you want without paying the ridiculous cinema prices for things like soft drinks and popcorn, you can have wine and beer if you like, and there won't be any noisy people using their mobile phones throughout the movie (also, if you want to, you can use your own phone without anyone yelling at you!). You can pause the film whenever you want a bathroom break, and you can be in your pyjamas if you feel like it!

With modern large screen TVs or even home projectors that can create a cinema style projection from even your mobile phone's screen, you can enjoy the big screen experience without making the ...

 Popular living room trends 2015

It’s never an easy choice deciding on designs, themes and decoration choices when it comes to giving your home or particular room a fresh, new look. After all, once it’s done, the paints on the wall, the sofas have been purchased and the curtains are up, it’s going to take a lot of time and effort, as well as money to undo the way you’ve made the room look like, leaving you having to just settle and live with it for a very long time. What’s important to keep in mind is that the most important factor when decorating a room is to know what you want, whether that is style, comfort, or both. Take a living room for example, after a long day at work you want to be to come home and have a place to relax and unwind. Thus, when decorating, think about how you will achieve ...

 Scandinavian-style living rooms

Of all the design styles that have gained popularity in recent years, the typical Nordic or Scandinavian model has become among the most widespread. Seen as highly desirable because of its strong, clean lines, maximum use of blond wood and focus on creating a feeling of spaciousness in even the smallest room, Scandinavian design is regarded as both refined and functional. Characteristic design schemes deliver comfort as well as charm, and clever storage ideas promote an image of neatness and lack of general clutter that is both stylish and sophisticated. Here are some simple ways in which this hot trend can be incorporated into the modern home.

Materials

In addition to blond wooden floors and furniture, other natural materials favoured by Scandinavian designers include fur, leather and wool. White walls and pale floors, illuminated by soft lighting and candlelight, act as a sort of ...

When you live somewhere like good old Blighty, it's not too often that you see the sunshine outside your windows. Anyone that lives in Britain will tell you that, for the most part, rain and the occasional snowy spell dominates our weather.

But when you venture across to a Mediterranean country, the reverse is true. You will spend most of your time basking in glorious sunshine! If you live in a country like the UK, you might be wondering how to bring that sunshine to your home without moving abroad!

Are your living room walls covered in wallpaper or brilliant white paint? If so, you will doubtless be itching to have a colour change! To create your Mediterranean-inspired living room, the first place to start with are your walls.

Taking the time to make your home unique is rewarding. Creating an environment in which you can relax on a day to day basis will make you feel comfortable. Let's start with the living room. What atmosphere are you trying to create in there? Many people find that their living space feels sterile and boring. Without personal touches and accent pieces, your living room will lack character. A few simple touches to the space can make a world of difference. Here are six essential decor pieces for your living room.

1. Glass Furniture

Glass furniture is huge right now, and so looks contemporary in modern living spaces. If you are brave, you might want to add in some glass chairs or a glass bookcase. An easy way to incorporate the trend into your home is by getting a glass coffee table or dining table. These additions to your living area will make ...

5 Focal Point Living Room Ideas That Maximise Space

You dont need to renovate your home to maximise space.  Having a small space does not mean it has to appear small.  All you need to do is create a focal point, and the rest of the work is done for you.

1. Contrast & Colours

Contrast and colours play a major role in the appearance of a room.  Simple colours, such as pastel shades of blue and cream make a room appear bigger.  The trick with contrasts and colours is an optical illusion.  Zespoke recommends using bright colours to help open and expand a room.  To master the art of optical illusion, you need to know how to reflect light instead of absorbing it.  Natural light creates many different effects, and bright and light colours are the best to use to maximise open space.  To make your living room appear larger, make sure to ...

Essential Features For A Contemporary Living Room Design

8454425291_1c1574a6a5_z.jpg

Mattwalker69

Contemporary and minimal themes go hand in hand in modern interior design. The style isnt to everybodys taste, but many people could not live any other way. There are those who consider it to be sterile and characterless, and I agree with them to an extent. But those who suffer from anxiety, or who have difficulty relaxing, often benefit from the less is more approach.

If you are looking for a project to take on around the home this year, here are some essential features for a contemporary living room design for you to mull over. Maybe your living room could be that project.

Lighting Scheme

Before you set about decorating a room, you must make alterations to the wiring for the new lights. The best room designs use recessed LED light fittings. They are hardly noticeable and do not clutter the ceiling like many other fittings do. The size of the fitting ...

From bombsite to paradise: overhaul your front room

Do you ever enter your living room and mistake it for the site of the Dresden fire bombings? Is your television covered in so much dust that every programme seems to resemble a reality show about bits of dust? Is your settee harder than a Flintstones three-piece suite?

Yeah, you might want to consider a living room overhaul.

And, luckily for you, youve come to the right place. Have a gander at some of these living room design tips to turn it from bombsite to paradise.

Scintillating seating

You slump in from work, straight out of the daily nine to five grind, and what welcomes you? A seat that seems to be made from spikes, bricks and the abstract notion of discomfort.

While it can be easy to settle for less when ...

MAY, 2014

The average sofa has a lifespan of 8 years. Throughout this time, your sofa goes through a surprising amount of turmoil. A sofa is more than just a piece of furniture that provides comfort for when youve had a hard day. For many homes, it is central to family life and general home entertainment.

If your sofa could talk, Im sure you would find it hard to get a word in edgeways from the amount it has witnessed over the years. From you and your partners first argument, to soaking up the tears after watching an emotional story unfold on the television. Its fair to say that your sofa may be a little under-appreciated after all that its been through and could be due a makeover.

Take a look at what your sofa ensures throughout its lifetime.

2 Rules for Organizing Your Living Room Furniture

php/2_1360838275.jpg

If youre thinking about rearranging your furniture in the near future, or youre moving in to a new space, keep these two rules in mind when deciding where to place everything.

1. Create two entries: Each seating area (if your space is big enough to have more than one) should be accessible via two different pathways. This way when you have guests over and you move from the living room to dining room or living room to kitchen table you wont have a bottleneck of people trying to change locations.

2. 18-inches is the magic number: Thats how much space should be between each piece of furniture (think sofa and coffee table or sofa and accent chair) so guests can comfortably pass between the two pieces.
