With the Christmas season upon us, it’s a good time to think about de-cluttering your home. With so much gift-giving going on, you’re bound to be giving (and receiving) items you may or may not like. De-cluttering your home will make way for new goodies that you will be receiving as gifts from loved ones. It’s also a good way to ensure your Christmas decorations will stand out. With the extra clutter, it can distract the beauty of the decorations you put up in your home.
De-cluttering may seem daunting especially if you have so many unnecessary items in your home. Naturally, you may feel as though you don’t know where to begin; but rest assured. Here are a few tips to get you started:
Donate to those in need
Start with an empty bag or basket and go around your home, filling it with unwanted items or items that you no longer use. Perhaps someone else will find them useful. Go through your closets and look for clothes that no longer fit. Donating these items to those who need them can make a world of difference for them this Christmas. You can also donate items to charity shops, such as the RSPCA if helping animals is more of your thing. Donating is a wonderful thing to do during the Christmas season and also helps you to get into the holiday spirit.
Sell unwanted items for extra Christmas cash
This may be helpful in gaining some extra Christmas shopping money to buy gifts for loved ones. When you’re on a budget, it may feel stressful trying to come up with enough money to buy a nice gift for everyone. Use online auction sites, car boot sales, or Facebook selling pages to gain a little extra cash in exchange for items you no longer use. Do you still have those designer shoes that are still in their original box at the back of your wardrobe? Sell them.
Get crafty and creative
When it comes to decorating your home, you don’t have to spend a fortune. String popcorn or cereal on strings and use it as garland for your mantle or Christmas tree. Make homemade ornaments out of seashells, Christmas candies, and ribbons. Use fabric to make hearts, gingerbread men, and candy canes. Attach a string and use it as ornaments on Christmas trees.
De-clutter your home today and get ready to welcome the holiday season!
