Whether your kitchen is in need of a refresh or you’re planning an entire renovation, the beginning of a new decade is the perfect time to start. As we head into 2020, we welcome all things new in interior trends. And whilst the kitchen should be the space that stands the test of time in the home, trends can serve up a wealth of design inspiration.
Here, resident interior designer for Optiplan Kitchens, Andy Briggs, shares his areas of focus for 2020:
Serene colour palettes
“Give your kitchen a new lease of life by reinvigorating it with gentle, soft colours. Introducing calming qualities to the home will be key in 2020 and notes of dusky pink, soft grey and sage green will bring a refreshing feel.
“Soft and pale tones, such as those found in the likes of Tranquil Dawn, Dulux’s Colour of the Year for 2020, will leave the kitchen feeling welcoming and inviting.
Concrete finishes
“Concrete is set to be the kitchen finish of choice in 2020 and this industrial material comes with a host of design benefits. Available as a solid, hard-wearing material for worktops, but also as a laminate which also comes in matching door finishes. Both add drama to a once boring kitchen.
“Bring a sense of drama to the space and incorporate a waterfall kitchen island with a concrete worktop cascading down the side for a striking effect.
Two-toned kitchens
“The trend for combining two colours throughout kitchen cabinetry is set to soar in 2020. It’s a great approach to adding an interesting twist to your aesthetic and it can change the whole feel of the room. Opt for deep, dark units and contrast with brighter shades elsewhere in order to add depth and character to the space.
“This notion can be taken beyond just paint too. You can also play around with rich textures such as wood grains, matt finishes or sleek laminate.
“Your eyes with naturally be drawn to the trends you’re most interested in so go with your gut instinct and transform your kitchen into a stunning and stylish space for 2020”.
