Surrounded by beautiful plants and foliage, and soothed by the calming sounds of nature, you can easily escape your daily pressures and worries.
For our simple guide to creating a relaxing garden space, have a read of this.
1. Create a beautiful patio
Build a patio as close to your back door as possible, and use it to create an extension of your home. To do this, use paving slabs to create the patio area, and then decorate it with furniture and plants.
With some simple planning, you can easily create a relaxing patio space that acts as a comfortable, seasonal room. Perfecting for relaxing and socialising during the warmer spring and summer months.
2. Plant a herb garden
Plant your own herb garden and create your own DIY aromatherapy space. Did you know that certain scents have calming and stress-relieving effects?
To create a calming garden space, rosemary, thyme and mint in your herb garden. Around the herb garden, plant fragrant plants like lavender, jasmine and roses. This will help to make your garden even more relaxing.
3. Ensure you have privacy
Your garden will not feel relaxing if you have your neighbours peering over the fence every few minutes, that is why it is important to create a private space.
While large fences and walls will ensure that you have privacy, they can make your garden feel small and closed in. So, instead of opting for high fencing or walls, create privacy with pergolas or lattice fencing placed in certain areas of your garden.
4. Add a water feature
Shut out the sounds of the outside world by adding a water feature to your garden – babbling water is effective at blocking out traffic sounds and other unwelcome noises. Plus, the tranquil sound of running water has incredibly soothing effects, ideal for helping to relieve stress.
As well as adding a water feature to your garden, you could also add wind chimes. Wind chimes create soothing sounds that can help you relax and de-stress.
5. Create a sensory area
It might sound odd, but creating a sensory area in your garden is an excellent way to reduce your stress levels. Did you know that running your fingers through fluffy seed heads or soft grass can be just as therapeutic as stroking a pet? And, just as stress relieving.
To create a relaxing sensory garden, fill a large plant pot with various plants. The best sensory plants are things like furry lambs lug, different types of grasses, and anything that has a unique feel to it. Just make sure to avoid anything spikey or thorny.
Turning your garden into a relaxing, tranquil paradise is the perfect weekend project. It’s fun, easy to do and shouldn’t cost too much either. And, best of all, it will help to keep you relaxed and stress-free in the future.
