Making some changes to your living space is a great way to breathe new life into it and make it a more comfortable place in which to kick back and relax, but it’s also an opportunity to boost your property’s value and kerb appeal if you were ever to sell it in the future. If you want to try and make some home improvements this year, here are some suggestions on how you can revamp your house both inside and out.
New Windows
Your windows must be in good condition as this will help to keep in the heat during the colder months and stop leaks or mould forming around the interior frames. If your windows are looking a bit worse for wear it could be time to get them replaced. While this is a practical change, you can also experiment with different kinds of windows to change the appearance of your house as well. Sash-style windows are great for country-style homes, as are wooden frames. If you want to add a more artistic flair, consider getting stained glass for a more interesting look.
New Doors
Just like your windows, your doors need to be sealed properly as well as be secure so you and your belongings are protected. You should have exterior upvc doors in your home as these are the best quality, and there are many designs you can choose from in order to create the perfect look. If you want to upgrade your patio doors, consider a bi-fold design for a modern touch to your home, or more traditional sliding doors so you can look out across your garden.
Paint It
Painting or putting up new wallpaper inside your home is the most effective way to make a change, but what about painting the exterior? It’s a great way to make your house stand out on the street and look a lot more appealing. You should also think about painting the garden walls, particularly if you have a smaller courtyard-style garden, as this looks lovely with potted plants and vines growing up them.
New Flooring
If you have an entrance hall in your home, consider having wood or tiled flooring in this area as it’s easy to clean but can also look more interesting than standard vinyl or carpets. Hardwood floors are always crowd-pleasers, and you can add some warmth to them by laying a gorgeous hand-made rug over the top. You could also put down tiles in the bathroom for a more luxurious feel – just make sure they don’t get too slippery when wet.
Structural Changes
If you are interested in a bigger home improvement project you could always look at making some structural changes to your property. This could be in the form of an extension – whether that’s making your kitchen bigger or adding another bedroom or even a conservatory. You could also look at opening up your living space rather than having separate rooms to make it feel brighter and airier.
There are many ways in which you can revamp your house, and if you’re looking to make some changes why not give some of these suggestions a try this year?
