There’s no better time than spring to dig out your marigolds and get rooting in your attic! Especially with the new series of Antiques Roadshow coming up and the mysterious reveal of their most valuable item ever featured on the show. Did you know the average attic find can add up to over £300 and sometimes even thousands, so it’s important to be cautious when looking through piles of belongings; you could come across valuable jewellery you didn’t know you had, or other heirlooms that have been stored unwittingly among the dust.
The lighter nights and milder temperatures also make National Spring Cleaning Week the perfect opportunity to clear out the garden shed or garage. Over the years, particularly in smaller properties, people may tend to store household items in their sheds just for want of finding a place to keep them, so it’s worth having a root around in there too. Especially keep an eye out for any items you may have dug up when gardening and subsequently left in the shed, they could be worth a small fortune!
If you do happen to find anything that you suspect might be of value, you’ll need to find somewhere a little more safekeeping for it! Depending on its size, it could easily be kept in a carpet-lined home safe. This is perfect for jewellery heirlooms or letters, for example, which need to be handled carefully and are prone to damage.
A bit more about the Treasured Memories campaign:
In a nutshell, we’re championing treasured memories and encouraging people to capture special moments to look back on for years to come. People often think about securing items of great monetary worth, but forget the importance of keeping sentimental valuables safe until it’s too late. #TreasuredMemories @TalkWithSafe
